Privacy
Last updated June 2, 2026
Subtext is built privacy-first. The whole point is to reduce anxiety, not create a new place to worry about your messages. Here's exactly what we do and don't do with your data.
What we store
Your account email, the decodes you run (the message transcript and the analysis), any people you choose to add, and your voice-calibration settings. That's it.
Screenshots are never kept
When you upload a screenshot, it's sent to the AI to read the conversation and then discarded — we don't store the image. We keep only the extracted transcript and the analysis.
We never sell or train on your data
Your messages are never sold, shared for advertising, or used to train machine-learning models. They're used only to generate your read and replies.
AI processing
To decode a message, its contents are sent securely to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the read and reply suggestions. They process it to return a result and do not retain it to train their models.
Your controls
You can export everything we hold on you, or permanently delete all of your data, at any time from Settings → Data & privacy. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Every record is protected by row-level security, so your decodes and people are only ever accessible to you.
